Sharon S Baucom Courage and Spirit Award
The "Sharon S Baucom Courage and Spirit Award" is given each year to a person involved with MSA who has demonstrated courage, determination, and perseverance through challenges and times of struggle. These are some of the characteristics that MSA attempts to teach our children through softball, team participation, and athletic competition. Although we set out each season with the goal of exposing children to situations that will help build their skills in these areas, there is no better way to expose them than to have active role models demonstrating these characteristics in our program. Individuals in our associations who demonstrate these admirable qualities are at very least worthy of our recognition and much deserving of our gratitude and praise, for they are contributing more than they know! This award will be presented annually during the spring season's opening day ceremonies and nominations will close 2 weeks prior to opening day each year.
This award is named after, and in honor of, Sharon S. Baucom, the inaugural recipient and member of MSA, who endured hours, weeks, and months of struggle after being involved in a devastating accident that resulted in her nearly losing her legs. Sharon was able to be in attendance at opening day, walk to the pitching mound, and throw out the first pitch to her daughter, who with her mother and family, continue to participate in MSA.
It is stories and real life examples like this that our children will remember for lifetimes. It is our hope that they will learn from this that although we will all face adversity in life, persistence and determination will always be the characteristics that will help them move forward in a positive fashion and through difficult times..
Volunteer of the Year Award
MSA is a non profit all volunteer organization operated exclusively by parents, coaches, and community members. We operate under a 13 member board of directors who have agreed to fulfill a role in our organization. Each role has duties and tasks assigned that are required in order to provide our communities children with this athletic program.
In order to provide a quality program, many more volunteers are required. These volunteers are not obligated much like our Board Members, however they choose to contribute their time, energy, and efforts so that all the other families in our organization can have the very best of experiences. The Volunteer of the Year Award was established to recognize that person who has gone above and beyond in their contributions to our program. They deserve special recognition because they give so much to the children of our program and the effort we make to provide a great experience for all of our members.
